Over the last two years, the BRCF Communication + Culture and Administrative teams have taken a closer look at what drives our work. Our teams held collaborative working sessions, conducted a department-wide survey to source feedback, and hosted small, internal focus groups to determine just how the mission of Biomedical Research Core Facilities (BRCF) supports your research. As part of these conversations, we identified a need to develop a new mission statement that reflects our pledge to each of you and the community that we support. Today, we are pleased to share this new statement with everyone.

We believe in serving you, advancing health, and paving the way for great discoveries in biomedical research at the University of Michigan and beyond.

While it may be a simple change, this statement is a celebration of renewed focus on how we do our work and how our values align with this new mission. “The BRCF’s new mission is the culmination of language inspired by the Medical School and Michigan Medicine. It represents the work, values, and commitment to a more inclusive environment that celebrates the culture of our team and the researchers that we support,” says Rene Dupont, Communications Manager for Biomedical Research Core Facilities and leader behind this initiative.

Equally as important to updating our mission is reaffirming our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). DEI and culture-building initiatives are an integral part of the work we do at the BRCF. We value the wealth of knowledge and expertise that comes along with a diverse workforce. We believe that making space for those who are underrepresented can allow positive outcomes to flourish.

As always, we thank you for your continued support. If there’s anything we can do to support you and your research further, please let us know by contacting brcfleadership@umich.edu.
